Jake Coan
Dolmen, 2026
Selenite, river stone, LED
16 x 22 x 10 inches
This piece is inspired by neolithic dolmens - stacked rock structures found all over the world. The rough texture of the stones creates a feeling of massiveness, while the glowing selenite provides a fire-like warmth and magic. A ritual space in tabletop scale.
Jake Coan grew up in the Hudson Valley, the son of an architect and a potter. After graduating from Bard College with a BA in Studio Art, he designed arts and engineering curriculum for children at Brooklyn Robot Foundry for many years. He currently works full time designing art and lighting fixtures in his studio in Housatonic, MA. Coan's influences include fashion designer Issey Miyake, sculptor Isamu Noguchi, and lamp designer Ingo Maurer, and most importantly; plants, rocks, and light. His lamps can be found in homes around the world and have been featured in publications such as Domino Magazine and New York Magazine, and Arch Digest.
