lamp 002, 2015
Steel, muslin, linen, paracord, cord locks
12.5 x 8.75 x 16.25 inches
This steel-frame table lamp is covered by two distinct fabric layers; an inner, removable, hand-sewn muslin shade that is flanked by four outer linen curtains. These individual curtains can be manipulated by the user via the orange cord locks to adjust the lighting as necessary. This is the second iteration in a series of lamps that enables users to adjust brightness in unexpected and playful ways. When making this lamp / was inspired by packing mules, mailboxes, Mozart's wig, and camping tents. Engaging with this piece invites you to make your own imaginative associations well beyond the lamp's function as a light.
