Winning Spirit is a meditation on the empty pursuit of achievement. We all know the feeling: the endless rat race treadmill towards "success". What award, promotion or milestone are you chasing? This sculptural light serves as commentary on the empty pursuit of trophies just like these where a weightlifter, arm wrestlers and runner embody the challenges of modern living. The hollow, translucent forms suggest that in a world where “winners” take nothing of true substance, genuine fulfillment and light comes from within.
Winning Spirit is a design collaboration between designers Alicia Tam Wei and Joey Zeledón. Alicia is a Professor of Product + Industrial Design at Parsons School of Design. She founded the Open Play Lab at Parsons, a research initiative that investigates the connections between play, creativity and innovation while advancing design for inclusive play. Joey is an industrial designer whose studio helps products reach their higher purpose. Their work spans everyday objects to thoughtfully reimagined furniture, blending emotional depth with practicality – always with a focus on comfort, connection, and meaning.
