About the event

How can colors create different atmospheres, moods, stimulations?

Join color expert Ruxandra Duru in conversation with graphic designer and educator Michael Dyer and artist and designer Ben Denzer to celebrate the occasion of Duru's new book Three-color combinations, an independently published translation of various relationships of color made by the author and beautifully laid out across 120 pages. We'll hear more about the book's making and Duru's color process.

Get the book! Meet the author. Talk color amongst friends. See you there.

More about the book:

Three-color combinations reproduces 120 three-color combinations created by Ruxandra Duru between 2021 and 2024 using colored paper. These combinations reflect her ongoing desire to understand the beauty and atmosphere behind color interaction.

This book was several years in the making. Determining how to accurately translate the colors and their delicate relationships to offset printing was a long journey, ultimately carried out with the highly specialized team at Trifolio in Verona, Italy.

Designed by Michael Dyer of Remake, the proportions and cover spring from the original works' dimensions, with paper, typeface, and binding decisions made with the same care.

Ruxandra Duru investigates color, atmosphere and beauty. Born in Romania, she spent her early and subsequent years living in Morocco, Canada and Spain. After designing book covers at Penguin Random House in Barcelona, she became increasingly interested in how colors can create different atmospheres. Now based in Brooklyn, she splits most of her time between her color work at Google and her independent practice. She is co-creator of colormoods.co, a stimulation-based palette generator. Her growing interest in color and materiality led her to start lending a few hours every week at the material library Sample House in Long Island City. Three-color combinations is her first book. @ruxandraduru
