About the event
Join us for the launch of Sede Vacante Nº1 - Glossary: New terms for construction, a new series of books by Lisbon based publisher Exemplo Books dedicated to emerging international architecture practices. Through a curated assemblage of working drawings and reflective annotations, each volume unveils the intellectual rigor and poetic intuition that animate the genesis of architectural form. It is an invitation to witness architecture not as a static artefact, but as a living, evolving discourse.
The first book in the series features Laura Salazar and Pablo Sequero (salazarsequeromedina) who will be joined for the occasion by Ane Arce and Iñigo Berasategui (BeAr Architects), and Diogo da Graça (Exemplo Books) to collectively share more about their intimate cartography of the creative process, foregrounding the notes, sketches, and marginalia represented in the book.

More about the book:
Glossary: New terms for construction, indexes fourteen terms that are interrelated and operative, and representative of a sustained inquiry across the body of work by salazarsequeromedina, a studio founded in 2020 through the collaboration of Laura Salazar, Pablo Sequero, and Juan Medina.
This glossary begins from a simple position, architecture does not start from zero. It works with what exists: materials, climates, typologies, and forms of life already in place. The terms defined here are embedded in formal and methodological tropes present in the work of salazarsequeromedina, and act as underlying intentions through which the process is manifested across media: from sketches to mockups, from models to built work. They respond to specific constraints and opportunities, practicing in different contexts—from Peru to Spain—with distinct climates, building traditions, and material cultures.
These terms are provisional. They may expand, shift, or be revised over time. Their value lies not in their permanence, but in their capacity to remain in use.

Laura Salazar and Pablo Sequero, are co-frounders of salazarsequeromedina, an architecture practice based in New York, Madrid and Lima, together with Juan Medina. Working across civic projects in very diverse geographic and cultural contexts, their work engages architecture through questions of adaptation, reuse, and climate, establishing a sensitive dialogue with existing conditions. The practice has received international recognition, including the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects in 2025, the Urban Edge Award in 2025, and was recognized as an Outstanding Project recognition by the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Emerging Practice in 2024. Their work has been exhibited internationally, in venues including the 4th Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the 13th Iberoamerican Biennale, in Lima, and the 3rd Biennale d’Architecture et Paysage de Versailles, Paris. Salazar is an Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute School of Architecture while Sequero is an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University School of Architecture. Previously, they have served as faculty at institutions including Cornell AAP, Arquitectura PUCP, in Lima, Peru, and Montana State University. @salazarsequeromedina
