Erik Kantar's sound bring global sounds together, blending '70s funk, samba-rock, disco, afro-beat, '80s boogie, '90s hip hop, favela funk, R&B and soulful house, to find a common groove that makes for a dynamic musical experience. His musical story began with Brazilian percussion as a toddler and has led him to explore music as a multi-instrumentalist and a filmmaker, spent 7 years documenting and researching ancestral music traditions around the world, like remote nomadic Saharan desert tribes and their ritual music, anti-patriarchal women’s music in Morocco, New Orleans brass bands, Afro-Cuban percussion, Andalusian folk music, South Asian oral music traditions and more. For the last three years Erik has been making a feature length music film in Salvador, Brazil, about ancestral memory and rhythm through the perspectives of various artists and masters. @rik.kan @funkin.donut
