About the event

Nature is Music, Music is Nature

Panel · Conversation · Vinyl DJ Set

What can we learn as electronic musicians and as listeners from Nature? How do we make music alongside it — using natural sounds to tell its story, letting the way it moves and breathes shape the music we make?

Join us for an evening of honest conversation about creativity, deep listening, and what the natural world has to offer those of us who make music with machines.

Followed by a nature-inspired vinyl set to complete the evening.

About the Organizers:

Uji is an artist, electronic music producer, and ethnomusicologist from Buenos Aires, Argentina whose trance-inducing creations fuse ancestral and natural soundscapes with the design and aesthetics of our modern times. His most recent work, TIMEBEING, explores the creation of new myths and symbolism in: a multi-platform conceptual album (ZZK Records); an 8-part short film (dir. Jazmin Calcarami); and an immersive live experience; acknowledging the need to embrace ritual technology to deepen connection in the physical, virtual and spiritual realms. Uji's powerful and energetic live performances have taken him on extensive tours around Europe, the US, Asia and Latin America playing prestigious festivals such as ADE in Amsterdam and Mutek Montreal to play alongside top electronic artists such as Sabo, Satori, Mira, Nu, and Hot Since 92. Uji has also released collaborations with artists from all over the world such as Carlos Vives, Nicola Cruz, Petrona Martinez, La Chica, Philippe Cohen Solal and El Buho to name a few. His releases include Alborada (ZZK 2018), Marimbas del Guapi EP (2020), Ser Tiempo Documentary (2020). Previously, Uji spent 17 years digging into his South American traditions and the last 22 years exploring electronic music, most notably as half of electronic folk pioneering duo Lulacruza (2005-2016) @uji_music

Lola Villa is a Bogotá-born composer, musicologist, DJ, and sound designer working at the intersection of house, dark disco, afro percussion and environmental consciousness. She blends Shirin-yoku’s deep listening practice, deep ecology and immersive electronica. Co-founder of Future Sound of Nature label (featured in MoMA Magazine) which dedicates 20% of profits to conservation in recorded ecosystems, she's a board member of DJs for Climate Action and co-founder of EchoSystem School of Sound. Sound healing for bodies that forgot they're nature. @lolavillabynature

Spiraling outwards from electronic music to climate action to Nature and regeneration, DJ E-Cology is the latest incarnation of Eli “Soul Clap” Goldstein. A new chapter with a mission that remains clear: honoring the lineage of electronic dance music to support deeper connection with the world around us. The spiral originates dancing at his first rave, witnessing the power of the culture to open hearts and minds; it continues with decades of making and spinning music as half of SOUL CLAP–becoming a student of electronic music with the ethos’ that house wears many hats and Everybody’s Freaky Under Nature’s Kingdom; it expands to running DJs FOR CLIMATE ACTION–a non-profit organization harnessing the power of nightlife to educate and inspire change; it curves into a Master of Science in CLIMATE SCIENCE & POLICY from Bard College–becoming a translator between the worlds of music and sustainability; it twists again as FUTURE SOUND OF NATURE–blending the soul of electronic music with the rhythms of the Earth to nurture the ecosystems and communities where we live and gather, and DJ E-Cology is born. Growing from the roots of a vast catalog of music, performances at legendary venues and festivals around the world, experience running labels and presenting radio shows and podcasts… DJ E-Cology expands into creative work in collaboration with Nature: organizing a regenerative electronic music festival in Upstate New York, joining and moderating panels at MUTEK, Amsterdam Dance Event, and Winter Music Conference, sharing deep listening experiences at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, hosting a monthly show on The Lot Radio (since 2016), building a radio station in a greenhouse, and stewarding the land where he lives. @soulclapeli

Max August is a DJ, electronic music producer, and Brand Manager at Splice. He's spent 15+ years playing New York City's best venues and shares an equal love for listening to the natural world. While at Splice, he traveled the world—to Iceland, the Galápagos, and Alaska—to capture field recordings for dozens of Splice's sample packs. Today he leads Splice's YouTube and video programming—creating storytelling content at the cutting edge of music culture. But the through line in everything he does is the same: finding sounds and music that make people feel something. @maxaugustmusic

Future Sound of Nature (FSON) blends the soul of electronic music with the rhythms of nature to nurture ecosystems and communities. Inspired by the groundbreaking style of The Future Sound Of London, our goal is simple: to help humans remember we are part of an interconnected web – WE ARE ALL NATURE. @futuresoundofnature

ECHOSYSTEM School of Sound is an online school of electronic music production co-founded by Uji and Lola Villa — an ethnomusicologist from Buenos Aires and a sound designer and deep ecologist from Bogotá, shaped by years living and creating across Berlin, New York, Tokyo, and beyond. ECHOSYSTEM was built on a simple refusal: to teach producers to sound like everyone else. Through on-demand courses, live cohorts, and 1:1 mentorships, they guide students through sound design, music production, Ableton, mixing and mastering, DJ performance, and songwriting — at every level of experience. The goal isn't technique for its own sake. It's helping producers develop a sonic voice rooted in who they actually are — their culture, their history, their instincts. A place where your personal history is your foundation, not something to overcome. They believe your roots aren't something to erase. They're your competitive advantage. @echosystem.xyz
