About the event

Lobby Art Editions and Head Hi invite you to the listening of the new album Language At An Angle by multidisciplinary artist - composer - pedal steel guitar player Sam Wenc. Join us Sunday, March 15 from 4-6pm to listen to the full album together as part of the Head HiFi deep listening series.

More about the album:

Language At An Angle is an eight-part tone poem. It is a journey through the heart, and, as the title suggests, a reflection on meaning itself. It views language not as a monolith–something concrete, unchanging and knowable–but rather as a process enlivened through the making of itself. Sharp angles, round edges, shifting patterns that live their own lives in one phrase before becoming something totally new in the next. Its meaning dances between the interactions between players, the surfaces of cymbals and strings, the transformation of motifs and time itself. And the music itself is gorgeous. The album was recorded February - May 2025 in Philadelphia, PA and released on January 30, 2026

Mixed by Sam Wenc

Mastered by John Dieterich

Sam Wenc - pedal steel guitar, vibraphone, tapes, metallaphones, cymbals, banjo, guitar.

Sam Yulsman - piano.

Will Henriksen - violin.

Stefano Grasso - drums, gongs.

Matthew Lee - bass, clarinet. Roman Norfleet - saxophone.

Jack Braunstein - clarinet.

Language At An Angle is dedicated to Susan Alcorn, the revered pedal steel guitarist who brought the instrument beyond its traditional role in country music, who passed in January 31 2025.
