About the event

In new book Dream Facades: The Cruel Architecture of Reality TV, the former architectural designer and current managing editor of Dwell Jack Balderrama Morley explores the physical spaces in reality TV shows, and what our obsession with the homes on the screen says about us. Join us to hear more about the book from Jack during a book launch and conversation with writer and editor Megan Reynolds.

More about the book:

Focusing on seven series in particular—Selling Sunset, The Kardashians, The Real World, The Bachelor, Trading Spaces, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Fire Island—Balderrama Morley dives into the shows' distinct architectural worlds to posit that what we really seek from these multi-million-dollar, whitewashed homes is safety and security of our own. In a time when home ownership has become more of a fantasy than a realistic goal, Dream Facades takes the parasocial element of reality TV into the realm of architecture, asking readers to think critically about the lives they're vicariously living.
