About the event

What does it mean to design a dwelling in a city simultaneously shaped by affordability crises, displacement, climate risk, and the erosion of shared public life? Can drawing, as a mode of inquiry, reveal what policy and data alone cannot? And what would it look like to treat collective housing not as a delivery mechanism but as an architectural and cultural project capable of reshaping urban life?

On the occasion of the publication of Collective Living and the Architectural Imaginary, the three authors join Adare Brown for a conversation about housing, drawing, and the city. The book examines sixty housing projects across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, redrawn by the research team using a consistent representational language, arguing that the way we design collective housing is one of the primary instruments through which cities are spatially and culturally shaped.
